On Finding Janet and Claudia!!

Sat Dec 5, 2009, 9:16 PM
  • Listening to: King Crimson: Larks Tongues in Aspic
  • Reading: The Big Wheel (Bruce Thomas)
  • Watching: my wolf play World Of Warcraft
  • Playing: Tune 6 string electric bass guitar
  • Eating: Always vegetarian :- )
  • Drinking: Rustico's Mellow Red Wine !!
23.50 West Haven.

Imagine the look on my face when I discovered Janet Padvaganian thru Classmates.com - then imagine the joy I felt when her sister Claudia found me via Facebook.

Janet and Claudia - and their brother Michael, along with upstairs neighbors Lori, Susan, and John Memolo are the folks who got me through my youth.

Why??

Well, partly because they were my neighbors - and while spending my summers on 85th street back in the mid 1970's, seeing Janet, Lori, and especially Susan going barefoot everywhere all summer long was a real treat. Susan and Lori's soles would be as black as coal, while Janet would be running everywhere all summer long - pounding her bare feet over the broken pavement in their common backyard. While I do not recall if Claudia went barefoot, she was someone I still liked very much. In fact, in a way Janet and Claudia were my favorite girls when coming of age. And Michael, bless him - was my boy - because he was the one who turned me into the deviant I am today...

Me and Claudia share something of great importance - we are both widow/ers - although I have recently found a love in a wolf named Julia... so, therefore me and Claudia are now brother and sister because we share the tragic loss of a loved one - which is something you never forget... Ever.

The first thing I wondered when I saw Janet's profile picture on Classmates.com is f she still goes barefoot everywhere.

Now, the thing I love about dg2001 is he gets right to the point: He knows that I am married to a woman who goes barefoot everywhere - but I ain't photographing her. Not yet anyway... because she is special, she is mine, and I'm not willing to share just yet...

But on the other hand - I would love to photograph Janet or Claudia - or perhaps the two of them together - barefoot in N.Y.C - over next summer if either or both were up for it...

I'm funny about who get's and who dosen't get photographed. My portfolio speaks for itself. Too bad its all print film images - nothing has been done in the digital domain yet, emphisis on yet.

On finding Janet and Claudia bring's me back to 1975, 76, and maybe 77 or 78. By 1979, I was hanging out with a new crowd - but I never forgot about those hot dirty summers spent on 85th street in Bay Ridge with the Padvaganians and the Memolo's... Incidently, it was John who straightened me out on a few thing's about life, and his lessons to me are still in practice.

P.S. I did hear from Annette, who I posted about last time. She is very happy to know that her feet are forever on display in my studio / gallery. Everything old really is new again...

Okay so i just noticed your comment, i am so flattered. Thank you for being so nice! I'm actually just a baby still, as I'm sure you've noticed- and I am sure your work is muchhhh more advanced. I play around with different techniques and lighting... as you've seen. I also LOVE paint. Haha, everyone is obsessed with 234234.00 software and i use this one that came with my canon and paint. and and old photoshop. hehehe. keep it simple-ish. Anyway- thanks so much & I'm about to check out your stuff!

Britany Britany my dear Britany ! ! !
I appreciate your comments back to me, but please don't sell yourself short !! Your work IS very very good. Mine is from a different era. And none of it is up yet because I have no technology to do so - but some year it will be. I wouldn't be too quick to say my work is more advanced than yours - mine might be more experimental in nature - but what you are doing you do very well. It's also good that you are young because you are daring and doing whatever it is you want to do - even going barefoot everywhere 24/7 - which is ultra cool. I wish you lived near me so you could physically see how I work in my ancient darkroom and some of the interesting techinques I use - not too mention physically see my work as well. Believe it or not - I grew to liking my negatives being dusty and scratchy - because it gave my work it's own character... you could tell right away from the grainy look that it was something I had done. There was another photographer - Michael Macioce - who worked exactly the same way. I stumbled upon a book of his maybe 5 years ago... the way he see's thing's is very similar to the way I see thing's.

I've only seen a little bit of your work - but the 2 or 3 images I saw of yours were PEFECT in every way. It's far better just to have a couple of stunning examples of your work on display rather than numerous ones which might not be as strong... Again, your use of tones really impress me very much. I appologize again for not having any images on line here - right now it's not possible again due to technological and financial limitations... my other passion is fighting to save or ecology - I bought 2 kayaks and a 3 person rowing canoe last year for my work - which is year round - even in the winter - so there are no spare funds for new or used digital equipment - which if I have a choice - I'd prefer used... it's kind of like recycling!!

I'm glad my comments to you make you : ) and believe me when I say to you that I am very sincere with my words to you - sincere and honest... your comments to me make me very : ) as well and I look forwards to not only watching your work develop and see where it goes from here but to also maintain a friendship with you as well - if you will allow me to...

Good luck with Jane! I am sure she'll walk barefoot in the street for you.
:iconghwaters:
Thanks - If not Jane - I'm sure there will be others... I'd like to really photograph Kathy G who although not a barefoot girl - she will model barefoot and will allow her perfect size 10 soles to get rather black... I will have to call her once the weather improves.

I'll be looking forward to your pics :-)
:iconghwaters:
You and me both !!! I get real joy from them as well... I have to start going through my old contact sheets and see whats worthy of priniting... I'll be using an Epson printer I picked up a few years ago - forget the model - but it's stand alone - will print from slides or 35mm film - both color + B&W - takes like a half dozen ink cartrages... if this thing will also scan - which I think it might - then we're that much closer to seeing some of my work on line : )
